The Exaltation of the Cross

Last Friday, September 14, the Church celebrated the feast as it does each year of the Exaltation of the Cross. The cross reminds us of the Resurrection. It's the ultimate and perfect example of the gift of life. From the cross, comes life's true significance and perfect happiness. Through the cross, we were all freely given the ultimate example of love and sacrifice.

The meaning of the cross that began nearly two thousand years has withstood the test of time. The cross has given us so many wonderful gifts of art, music, architecture and above all a saviour. It gives us the story of who we really are. It has also given us so many holy women and men. Many of them are now saints. The cross is the greatest love story imaginable. It prepares us for eternity.

In this blog entry, enjoy just two of these gifts that have come from the cross. One is the life of Blessed John Paul II and the other is the Song for Karol. This moving tribute is beautifully sung by Mark Mallett and Raylene Scarrott. We thank God for these gifts of faith. As you listen to this very moving and inspiring tribute, we hope you take a few minutes, from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, to treasure these musical sounds and thoughts and maybe even reflect on the many gifts we have generously received from the life of the cross: "Behold the wood of the cross, on which has hung our salvation: come let us adore." Why not consider it the short five minute retreat?
