In Assisi, Italy, on October 27, 2011 Pope Benedict XVI addressed those present during the "Day of Reflection, Dialogue and Prayer for Peace and Justice in the World." His speech is titled, "We May Distinguish Two Types of the New Forms of Violence." The Holy Father makes a number of insightful observations about the root of violence and how it can be overcome. Here's part of what he had to say:

"Let us try to identify the new faces of violence and discord more closely. It seems to me that, in broad strokes, we may distinguish two types of the new forms of violence, which are the very antithesis of each other in terms of their motivation and manifest a number of differences in detail.

On Saturday, October 19, 2011 close to 2,300 Ontario taxpayers gathered at Queen’s Park in Toronto to demand that the Ontario Legislature delist elective abortion as a service covered by taxpayer dollars.

On October 9, 2011, during the celebration of Holy Mass and praying Angelus, just before he was taken by helicopter to visit Serra San Bruno, in Calabria, Pope Benedict told the faithful, "I know that there are various Marian shrines here in Calabria and that popular piety is very vibrant," and he invited those present to continue to practice that piety "in the light of the teaching of Vatican Council II, of the Apostolic See and of your pastors."

The Pope went on to say, "Let us also invoke th

Did you that “Freedom of conscience and religion” is the first of the fundamental freedoms spelled out in the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms? It can be argued religious freedom, at least in the Charter document, takes precedence over freedom of opinion, assembly and association. Now the Harper government has set up an Office whose very mandate will probably be the promotion of religious freedom on an international level.

On September 22, 2011, Pope Benedict XVI addressed Germany's lower house of Parliament, the Bundestag. The speech was called, "The Listening Heart: Reflections on the Foundations of Law." Some members of parliament decided to boycott the talk. We can only assume that there were a number of reasons for doing so. But certainly one of them we suspect is the notion that the Pope today has little to say to a modern member of a secular government.

The Canadian Martyrs were eight Jesuit missionaries from France who came as missionaries to Sainte-Marie among the Hurons. They were martyred in the mid-17th century in what we now as southern Ontario and upstate New York. Here are the names of the companions: St. Noël Chabanel, St. Antoine Daniel, St. Charles Garnier, St. René Goupil, St. Jean de Lalande and St. Gabriel Lalemant.

Everyday for Life Canada has written to the Government of Canada, the Government of Ontario and the City of Toronto trying to find out why they advertise in the Now magazine. The magazine is distributed free in the Greater Toronto Area. There are also a number of companies that support this publication by placing ads in its pages.

Dear Reader,

Everyday for Life Canada has received a wonderful letter from a mother. With her consent, we want to share it with everyone because we believe this is what is so badly needed today to reclaim the faith and Catholic education. Parents must not be afraid to speak up and get involved. The only editing we did was to remove the names of the teachers it was addressed to and the writer's home address. Mrs.

How many parents know that the Liberal government in their Safe Schools initiative passed Bill 157 "Keeping our Kids Safe at School" last February 1, 2010? Why was this piece of school legislation, which could see students or teachers suspended for questioning any of the new sexual orientations, kept hidden from public attention and debate during the elections? This is more of the politics of deception.

The social engineering propaganda of the Equity and Inclusive Education Strategy has already made its way into the curriculum of your local school for 2011-12. If parents want to defend their children against this moral danger and exercise their parental rights in education, they must get informed. You can no longer trust either the school or our new Liberal government to do what's right and good for students. The government has not been transparent on this question.

First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings should be made for everyone, for kings and all who are in high positions, so that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and dignity. This is right and is acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour, who desires everyone to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
