When corporations lie we all lose

British Petroleum Plc, one of the world's largest oil and gas companies, recently agreed to criminal penalties for the oil spill in 2010. The company will pay $4.5 billion and plead guilty to criminal misconduct on the Deepwater Horizon disaster, which caused the worst American offshore oil spill ever. Ed Markey is a Democrat with the U. S. House of Representatives and was member of the House Natural Resources Committee in charge of the investigation. He said, "BP lied to me. They lied to the people of the Gulf. And they lied to their shareholders, and they lied to all Americans."

The explosion on the deep Water Horizon in the Gulf Of Mexico killed 11 workers. Some 4.9 million barrels of oil spilled into the Gulf for 87 days.

Some good news for the freedom of speech

Finally there is some good news for the freedom of speech. A British judge in a decision issued on November 16, 2012, regarding a government employee who posted on Facebook his disagreement with "same-sex marriage", has ruled that the defendant didn’t commit an act of "professional misconduct." The case against Mr. Adrian Smith was initiated by his employer the Traddord Housing Trust, an arm of the municipal government in northeast England. Mr. Smith worked as a property manager.

Quas Primas and the Year of Faith

Have you heard of the Cristero War in Mexico? It was an uprising by the laity and priests in an effort to stem the tide of the government's war against the Church. It took place during 1926-29, as the atheist President Plutarco Elias Calles suppressed his people with many anti-Catholic laws. Thousands were killed, including women, children and priests. Those in the resistance movement called themselves "Cristeros", using the name of Jesus Christ or "Cristo Rey" which means Christ the King.

Where is the misguided push to radically sexualize young people coming from?

Who is driving the agenda to have children radically sexualized at a very young age? Where is the big push for the recognition of what can only be described as phony “sexual rights”? The "sexual rights" agenda is actually being advocated at the United Nations and aggressively pushed to every Western country by its affiliates known as the International Planned Parenthood Federation, IPPF, and Planned Parenthood, PP.

Equity Education and Bill 13 have not overruled denominational rights

Denominational Rights

In Ontario, Equity and Inclusive Education and Bill 13 have both been approved and passed into law. However, this change in no way overrules the fact that Catholic schools have denominational rights. Catholic teachers and parents have every right to continue to teach and defend the Catechism of the Catholic Church, especially when it comes to life issues, including human sexuality, the family and marriage.

The Catholic life: living your best life

Not so long ago, we got into a discussion with a friend who challenged me with this question: if you weren't a regular churchgoer and practicing the faith what would attract you or anyone else to the Catholic life? This being the Year of Faith Everyday For Life Canada has tried in this blog entry to offer a humble answer. Readers need to keep in mind that I am not a theologian. My views are those of an ordinary Catholic father and retired Catholic teacher trying to practice his faith.

Why do "mommy/mommy", "daddy/daddy" in Ontario have more rights?

In the Catechism of the Catholic Church under the topic of "Duties of Parents" we find these two wonderful reminders of what Christians are called to do:

"Parents must regard their children as children of God and respect them as human persons. Showing themselves obedient to the will of the Father in heaven, they educate their children to fulfill God's law. (2222)

"Parents have the first responsibility for the education of their children.

It’s a moral and not a fiscal cliff that North America faces

Both the Toronto and New York stock markets have been declining since President Obama’s re-election, and the great worry expressed by the Wall Street experts is of the upcoming “fiscal cliff.” The term has been used to remind Americans that in 2013 they face some tough choices: tax increases and government spending cuts or they could avoid these cutbacks by continuing to spend at the 2012 levels, but this will mean that the deficit will get larger.
