It seems that wherever you look today there are many problems all over the world. In the Ukraine, we have what can be described as a civil war. We have had the tragic downing of the Malaysian aircraft M17 with 298 innocent lives destroyed. Israel is at war with the Palestinians and Hamas. There is so much violence in the Middle East. Christians are being persecuted in Iraq and in many other parts of the world. There are problems in Syria, Libya and Egypt. The sad list goes on and on. And we have made no mention of any personal or family problems that we may be currently experiencing. There seems to be no end to violence, destruction and death. Just consider the evil consequences from the culture of death of abortion and euthanasia.

Health Canada has it right when it comes to warning pregnant women about the dangers of smoking and second-hand smoke for the mother and the unborn baby's health. On some cigarette packages, there's an image showing one hand of a pregnant woman touching her womb while her free hand is pushing away another person's hand that holds a cigarette between the index and the middle finger. We have used the image with this post.

On July 21, 2014 the Assyrian Orthodox Patriarch Ignatius Aphrem II publicly spoke out against the violent and deadly attacks Christians are facing in Iraq. The Patriarch of the Syriac Orthodox Church, His Holiness Ignatius Aphrem II, issued a statement condemning the violence against Christians. Here is the text of the statement:

The pace of the threats in Northern Iraq has escalated recently and the attacks and killing of Christians and others in Mosul have increased.

Dr. Chris Kahlenborn released an important book in 2000 titled, Breast Cancer: It's Link to Abortion and the Birth Control Pill. It was published by One More Soul but not nearly enough people regrettably know about this life-saving text. The author connects breast cancer to abortion and the use of oral contraceptives. The book is based on six years of study and a meticulous analysis of hundreds of scientific papers and other sources. Dr.

The Nova Scotia Teachers Union's Equity Committee Liaison Handbook makes it clear that teachers must affirm and accommodate homosexuality. Teachers have no choice but to accept and support this societal change.

Should any teacher back the traditional family and marriage between a man and a woman, they will no doubt face discrimination.

Recently while cleaning and sorting a bookshelf I found a book of  exams that were once used in Ontario’s elementary schools. They were printed by The James Texts Limited from Belleville, Ontario. I could not find a publication date nor the title because the book's cover page is missing. Since the exams span a period from 1934 to 1949, we can assume it was published sometime after that last exam year.

In last Sunday's gospel taken from Matthew 13: 1-23, Jesus explains through the parable of the sower and in very clear language what we are called to do. Here’s the text:

On that day, Jesus went out of the house and sat down by the sea. Such large crowds gathered around him that he got into a boat and sat down, and the whole crowd stood along the shore. And he spoke to them at length in parables, saying: 'A sower went out to sow.

On Sunday October 21, 2012, in St. Peter’s Square, Pope Benedict XVI canonized six new saints including Kateri Tekakwitha. In Canada, we celebrated her memorial on Apirl 17, 2014. In the United States and in other countries, today they celebrate Saint Kateri Tekaakwitha. It’s instructive and worth remembering what the pope said. He quoted and refered to these words from St.

We are experiencing today a lack of moral leadership. It's missing in the media. It's missing among our politicians. Its missing in our schools and sadly missing in many of our parish communities.

Our post-modern Western world seeks liberty without responsibility. There is a strong push for total sexual freedom. In most of the West, the family structure has been legally redefined, along with marriage and the very meaning of what it means to be human. In some countries, including the province of Quebec, euthanasia is now lawful. The idea of salvation, if mentioned at all, is to be found in material things and in ourselves.

We are constructing an existence without God.

See, I have set before you today life and prosperity, death and adversity; I call heaven and earth to witness against you today that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curses. Choose life so that you and your descendants may live.

First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings should be made for everyone, for kings and all who are in high positions, so that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and dignity. This is right and is acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour, who desires everyone to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
