The killing of so many Christians in the Middle East and other parts of the world is nothing else but genocide. The fact that mainstream media and Western governments have not given this issue the attention it deserves doesn't take away from the horrible reality that Christians are being forced to leave their homes, persecuted and even killed for their faith.

The Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham, ISIS, has been persecuting and killing Christians and other religious groups. In fact, presidential candidate Hilary Clinton has finally made the admission that what is happening is genocide. The organization called In Defense of Christians, IDC, has strongly supported her statement and urges the secretary of state John Kerry to recognize the atrocity.

The Gospel reading for yesterday's Mass is from Matthew, 2: 13-18, could have been written today. The Church liturgically celebrates the sacrifice of the Holy Innocents. They were innocent martyrs.

Dear Prime Minister Justin Trudeau,

I'm writing to let you that I would like apply for the position of senator. My understating is that there are 22 vacancies to be filled at the start of 2016, and that you're looking for "high quality candidates." I admit that it's difficult to be objective about oneself, but I promise to do my best in this application to not let subjectivity get in the way.

We know that Christmas should be about celebrating the birthday of Baby Jesus, Our Lord and redeemer. However, it's too easy to get caught up in our secular and materialistic society on giving each other gifts, the lights, decorating our trees and the parties. But in the end if we stop and think about it, Christmas is nothing more than the celebration of the birth of Christ who entered the world as a poor child to save us all through His love and sacrifice.

The Ontario English Catholic Teachers Association (OECTA) this month sent a letter to teachers with their union membership cards. The Association tells teachers about how they can enrol in professional development courses for Additional Qualifications.

There is a You Tube video with a large Canadian children's choir singing a song that celebrates the Prophet Muhammad's return to Medina. There's nothing wrong with that, right? No, except that the song celebrates Muhammad's victory over Christians and Jews who were forced to convert to Islam. Sadly, ISIS is using the same genocidal tactics against non-believers again today in the Middle East.

The Supreme Court of Canada’s decision on February 2015 removed the provision in the criminal code against physician-assisted suicide (PAS). It gave (more like ordered) Parliament a year to legislate how "mercy" killing would be carried out in Canada.

Any law that legalizes euthanasia is an unjust and immoral law.

Do you know about the the Catholic Civil Rights League? Are you aware of what they do? More on these questions later. On December 15, the CCRL had their annual general meeting. It was held at St. Piux X Church in Toronto, and the guest speaker for the evening was Alex Schadenberg, Executive Director of Euthanasia Prevention Coalition. As part of the agenda, there was an update given by the League's President Philip Horgan on some of its current activities.

Last Friday at the Campaign Life Coalition, CLC, office volunteers, supporters and friends attended a Mass in celebration and thanksgiving of Fr. Alphonse de Valk's fiftieth year of his priesthood. The event took appropriately place on the same day when the Church liturgically celebrates the feast day of Our Lady of Guadalupe. She is the patroness of human life and what  Fr. de Valk has indefatigably and loyally defended throughout his priesthood.

Fr.

In the next few days, you will be hearing a lot in the media about the historic agreement reached by 195 countries on climate change in Paris. Before you conclude that something has really been done, think again. The idea that climate change is the most serious problem the world faces is mostly public relations and not much more. The West is experiencing a moral crisis not an environmental one.

See, I have set before you today life and prosperity, death and adversity; I call heaven and earth to witness against you today that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curses. Choose life so that you and your descendants may live.

First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings should be made for everyone, for kings and all who are in high positions, so that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and dignity. This is right and is acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour, who desires everyone to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
