Dear Member of Parliament,

We're writing to urge you and the other elected members of parliament to vote against Bill C-14 that will legalize more killing in Canada. The slippery slope that this makes possible can best be understood with Bill C-150 that in 1969 made it legal to kill the unborn child. It was then called by the euphemism "therapeutic abortion." Today that legislation is used to kill 280 unborn babies a day in Canada and it's all paid for by our heath care system. The very meaning of health has been perverted.

Liberal MP Robert-Falcon Ouellette has had the courage to say what others members of parliament should be saying: an uncompromising no to Bill C-14. Ouellette has said that he will vote against the legislation to legalize euthanasia and assisted suicide.

You have probably read the story how in the Alberta's legislature the NDP government tried to push back parental rights last week. If you missed it, here are the main details.

Two years ago I stopped supporting, after over thirty years, Plan Canada because while the organization helps children in need in many parts of the world they also began backing abortion. Of course they don't have the courage to call it that: it's known as "reproductive rights" or a woman's right to choose to kill her unborn baby. But evil by any other name is evil. As a result for the last two years, I have been sponsoring three children with the Catholic charity Chalice.

Since the 1970s, Earth Day celebration in schools have become a sort of "religion" of the environment. It will be celebrated as a Day of Significance in Toronto schools on April 22, 2016. The Earth Day Canada website has all kinds of suggested programs. It's all about preaching that we need to save the planet. Eco-schools are the way to go. The day has become more important than Easter and Christmas.

The founder of St. Joseph Communications Gaetano Gagliano died peacefully on April, 14, 2016. He was 98 years old. He continued to work until he was 95. He was married to his wife Giuseppina for over 70 years. Together they had ten children. Gaetano was the grandfather of 35 grandchildren and great-grandfather to sixteen great-grandchildren.

I attended the funeral Mass held at St. Clare of Assisi Roman Catholic Church in Woodbridge, Ontario.

There's a reflection for this Sunday's Gospel reading about the Good Shepherd from St. John (10:27-30) by Sr. Aemiliana that is worth reading, praying, studying and putting into action. Let's read it first and then make some observations that apply to us today. Here it is:

The notion of shepherd calls forth strong and manly qualities. He must have courage in the pastures of the Orient. Wild beasts often attacked his herds.

Let's make the annual National March for Life 2016 edition the most successful ever. It's sad that in a post-modern country such as Canada we are still fighting for the right to life of the unborn. We don't need to intentionally kill hundreds of preborn and innocent babies each day. It's time to end the killing and embrace a culture of life. Together we can do this. Help bring this pro-life and pro-family message to your parish community and be part of the event.

Cardinal Thomas Collins of the Archdiocese of Toronto responds to Canada's Bill C-14, An Act to amend the Criminal Code and to make related amendments to other Acts (medical assistance in dying. He expresses concern about the protection of the conscience right of doctors and nurses. He says that better palliative care is the solution.

Last year the Ontario Catholic Teachers Association (OECTA) advertised in their newsletter the 37th Annual University of Guelph Sexuality Conference. The association no doubt would have no hesitation in promoting this year's 38th Annual Sexuality Conference. However, we are sure that most parents would be surprised, if not shocked, at the graphic contents of many of the presentations. One has to question why a university would want to hold such and event in the first place.

Surely we have not forgotten the financial crisis of 2008. It's no longer front page news, but the consequences of what happened are still with us. Do you recall what took place? There was a mortgage scandal in the United States that affected the entire world banking system as the largest banks and investment institutions came close to a collapse.

Here in brief is a little more of the details that took place.

See, I have set before you today life and prosperity, death and adversity; I call heaven and earth to witness against you today that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curses. Choose life so that you and your descendants may live.

First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings should be made for everyone, for kings and all who are in high positions, so that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and dignity. This is right and is acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour, who desires everyone to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
