Bishop Philip Egan of the English Diocese of Portsmouth has issued a timely and practical Pastoral letter warning that we risk the coming of "a frightening new dark age." Christian morality and prayer are in decline throughout the West despite all the progress in technology and science. A good society rests on sound morals and ethics. Bishop Egan urges his readers to be people of life and love and to ask Jesus to help them accomplish this. He says that "It’s over fifty years since the 1967 Abortion Act, one of the most liberal in the world, came into effect. Since then, ten million babies in the UK have been aborted, one in five pregnancies.” Abortion and euthanasia encourage the culture of death ans society's death wish.

We're certain that by now you have heard of the very sad story of little Alfie Evans who suffers from a neurological disease. The British medical system has refused to continue to treat the child and the hospital where the Alfie is staying has gone to court to stop medical care and legally make sure the child is not moved. The decision seems to be that the child has not long to live and so he must be left to die. This is not only wrong; it's barbaric.

The current Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has got to be one of the worst politicians in recent history. His failure to protect the freedom speech in the country is just one example that shows just how bad his leadership is. He continues to argue that his Liberal government is correct in making it a requirement for those applying for the Canada Summer Jobs program to state in the application form that they fully support abortion.

Quebec like other provinces has developed a radical sex-ed program for its public schools. Quebec's approach is even more explicit and child abusive than that of the province of Ontario. Parents need to be aware of what is going on in order to protect their children. Let's consider some of the radical content of Quebec's course and the approach taken by the provincial government:

1. The sex ed program starts in kindergarten.

Certain antiphons (Marian prayers) are used throughout the liturgical calendar. During, Advent and Christmas: Alma Redemptoris Mater; in Lent: Ave Regina Caelorum; Easter: Regina Caeli and for Ordinary Time: Salve Regina.

Regina Caeli, Queen of Heaven, is  a Marian hymn sung as part of Night Prayer, in place of the Hail Holy Queen, Salve Regina, during Easter time. Since the theme of Easter is the resurrection of Our Lord, we focus on this event even in our Marian devotions.

Along with the Regensburg speech, Pope Benedict gave a talk, "Address of His Holiness Benedict XVI on the Occasion of Christmas Greetings to the Roman Curia" at the Vatican for Christmas 2010 that is worth studying and revisiting. We believe that these are two of the most significant speeches and are central to the pontificate.

In his Christmas address, the Pope made it clear the the post-modern world had adopted a chaotic and self-serving moral order.

The 2018 Stratford Festival in Ontario takes the liberty to change HISTORY. Now, political correctness is being used to revise the past. It's all about being inclusive, diverse and gender-neutral.

The front cover of this season’s brochure features the face of Martha Henry. Nothing unusual here. What is different is that she's playing the role of Prospero in Shakespeare's, The Tempest.

Alberta is copying Ontario as the NDP government introduces Bill 9, Protecting Choice for Women Accessing Health Care Act. Both governments have shown no hesitation in violating Charter rights in terms of freedoms of speech, expression, assembly and religion. The killing of unborn babies, abortion, must be protected even it means that the rights of Canadians need to be infringed upon. It's all about legally shielding the culture of death.

In recent years, in the Middle East Christians have been disappearing by the tens of thousands. According to the Catholic humanitarian organization the Catholic Near East Welfare Association, started by Pope Pius XI, the past 15 years has seen the decrease of between 2.5 and 3 million Christians in the Middle East.

In Syria alone, a million Christians have left the country in the last seven years. The war has brought suffering and hardship to another 500,000.

Today schools across Canada are supporting the Humboldt Broncos by wearing a jersey. Sixteen people died and thirteen were seriously injured last Friday when the bus carrying the Broncos hockey team collied with a semi-trailer. So, Canadian students have asked to wear a jersey to show solidarity with the team and families.

That sixteen young lives were lost is a horrible tragedy that parents should never have to experience.

See, I have set before you today life and prosperity, death and adversity; I call heaven and earth to witness against you today that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curses. Choose life so that you and your descendants may live.

First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings should be made for everyone, for kings and all who are in high positions, so that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and dignity. This is right and is acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour, who desires everyone to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
