In preparation to celebrate Christmas, today we begin the Franciscan novena. It ends the day before the celebration of the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception. The novena can be prayed again for nine days leading up to Christmas day. Mary's yes at the Annunciation is a yes to divine/human life and to the redemption of mankind from death and sin. After the fall, paradise is once more opened for us all. The novena is found on the EWTN website. We hope that readers join us. Our prayer intentions are for an end to abortion and for all our brothers and sisters around the world who are persecuted, killed and suffer because of their faith.

An article in The Ottawa Citizen titled, "Parents’ bill of rights is the wrong choice for Ontario" by Amber Labelle deserves our response, since we are fighting for parental rights in Ontario and my name is mentioned.

Labelle is concerned that the current process of consultation by the Ministry of education may result in a Parents' Bill of Rights.

On Sunday we attended the Teopoli Family Celebration Dinner. The festivities appropriately took place on the same day that the liturgy marks the solemnity of Christ, King of the Universe. The event is the work of the Catholic group called Societa Unita, the United Society, that formed back in 1969.  Fr. Claudio Piccinini, C.P. was the one who founded the organization. It will soon mark the 50th anniversary.

Title: Right Here Right Now: Politics and Leadership in an Age of Disruption

Author: Stephen Harper

Publisher: Penguin Random House Canada, 2018

Will today's populism make conservatism a thing of the past? Does conservatism still matter in an age of globalism, socialism and liberal ideology? Former Conservative prime minister Stephen Harper makes a strong case for conservative principles in his book Right Here, Right Now: Politics and Leadership in an Age of Disruption.

Today is Thanksgiving Day in the United States of America. To celebrate the day we post the Thanksgiving proclamation issued for the occasion in 1815 by James Madison, the fourth president of the United States.

This Sunday, November 25, we justly honour Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe. Pope Benedict XVI wrote these thoughtful words for the liturgical celebration of this feast day for Christ the King:

Jesus of Nazareth…is so intrinsically king that the title “King” has actually become his name. By calling ourselves Christians, we label ourselves as followers of the king….God did not intend Israel to have a kingdom.

Celine Dion has started a new line of clothing for children. Normally this would not be a big deal. But we decided to write about it because the clothes are designed to be political and thus change attitudes. The clothing line is supposed to be "gender neutral" and free children from traditional stereotypes of boy and girl, female and male. Kids must be liberated from wearing pink for girls and blue for boys. The Canadian singer has joined forces with the brand name NUNUNU.

A number of students have been expelled from St. Michael's College School for alleged sexual abuse and assaults. Videos circulated about the horrible incident and one video police consider to be child porn. It's now become a criminal investigation.

The principal of SMC this weekend publicly addressed the issue saying that a culture contrary to school values has been formed that needs to be investigated and rooted out.

This past weekend around 250 people attended a benefit dinner for suffering and persecuted Christians in the Middle East. The charity work is supported by the Archdiocese of Toronto. The funds raised will go to the Catholic Near East Welfare Association, CNEWA. We were glad to be there.

In attendance was Cardinal Thomas Collins of the Archdiocese of Toronto who has supported efforts to help Christians in the Middle East and especially in Iraq.

St. Michael's College School in Toronto, under the direction of Basilian Fathers, has expelled eight because of a video that surfaced on social media. It features students carrying out abusive sexual acts. The whole incident at the Catholic private school is currently being investigated by Toronto Police.

The school administrators have put out a statement that in part reads:

Dear St. Michael's College School Community, The events of this week have left our community shaken and heartbroken.

Deuteronomy 30,19
See, I have set before you today life and prosperity, death and adversity; I call heaven and earth to witness against you today that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curses. Choose life so that you and your descendants may live.

First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings should be made for everyone, for kings and all who are in high positions, so that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and dignity. This is right and is acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour, who desires everyone to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
