God "in his great mercy" has given humanity "a new birth to a living hope" through the passion, death and Resurrection of His Son Jesus Christ. This is the meaning of Easter. We have been redeemed and forgiven by the Blood of Christ. We just need to say yes to Christ and no sin and evil. It's this message of divine forgiveness and hope that Pope John Paul II wanted to spread to the world. As a result, he instituted Divine Mercy Sunday on April 22, 2001, to be celebrated the Sunday after Easter.

In 1969, Canadian law passed by then Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau opened to doors to the evil of abortion. The cost would be fully covered by the Health Care system. Since then, over 4 million unborn babies have been intentionally been killed in the name of "reproductive rights." Think about it: today about 300 unborn babies a day are killed. And Canada's foreign policy tries to push the evil to other nations with funds and propaganda.

Barack Obama Tweeted on April 21, "The attacks on tourists and Easter worshippers in Sri Lanka are an attack on humanity. On a day devoted to love, redemption, and renewal, we pray for the victims and stand with the people of Sri Lanka." And here's Hilary Clinton's Tweet, "On this holy weekend for many faiths, we must stand united against hatred and violence.

In 1995,  St. John Paul II released the encyclical Evangelium Vitae (the Gospel of Life). With it, he addresses the bishops, priests, deacons, religious men and women, the lay faithful and all people of goodwill. He reminds us all that human life has intrinsic value and is inviolable. Life is sacred because it's a gift that comes from God and must be respected. God creates life, not human beings.

By now, everybody knows that just one week ago a huge fire engulfed Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, and much of the structure that goes back 850 years has been destroyed. This is a tragedy not just for Catholics but for the world because the building represents both history and a record of Western values. These are the foundations of the culture. The MSM had to cover the event. But the bigger story remains untold: the world-wide persecution of Christians. The narrative isn't politically correct.

Today we go back and post part of the Easter message from Pope Pius XII issued on April 13, 1941. We think that its contents speak to the faithful today. Visitors can read the entire statement here. Keep in mind that World War II had started 1939 with Germany's invasion of Poland. Europe was at war and the fighting would soon become a deadly global battle. The Easter message is a sober and truthful reminder when Christianity faced both a physical and spiritual attack.

It's too easy during Holy Week to forget about Holy Saturday. There are no liturgical services. On this day, we face the scary silence of the tomb. Today reminds us that Christ faced the pain and suffering of death, fear and loneliness. We know what this means because we have all experienced with friends and family the loss and mystery of death. But Christ's Resurrection comes only after carrying the cross, His crucifixion and death.

Saint Augustine has these encouraging words about the passion of the Lord, "Let us admire, congratulate, rejoice, love, praise, adore; because through the death of our Redeemer we are called from darkness to light, from death to life, from exile home, from grief to everlasting joy." And St.

The Holy Thursday liturgical celebration is based on the profound truth that Christ's love for humanity was so great that he gave His life to redeem us from sin and death. It's on this night that the sacraments of the Holy Eucharist and Holy Orders (the Priesthood) were established by Christ. He came down from the Father to wash our feet, give us the Eucharist, died on the cross and rose from the dead to demonstrate His Love. We are called to follow this perfect example of love.

See, I have set before you today life and prosperity, death and adversity; I call heaven and earth to witness against you today that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curses. Choose life so that you and your descendants may live.

First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings should be made for everyone, for kings and all who are in high positions, so that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and dignity. This is right and is acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour, who desires everyone to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
