Ben Shapiro has written a great book to address the political, social and moral crisis of our times:  The Right Side of History: How Reason and Moral Purpose Made the West Great. Shapiro makes some major assertions and provides evidence to support them. Here are just a few. The West abandons its Judeo-Christian values and the Greek's idea of reason at its own peril. We are are losing our sense of meaning and purpose. We excessively promote individual "rights" at the expense of the community. Children are being indoctrinated to believe that life is just a matter of feelings and rational discourse serves no purpose. Life itself has no meaning. Reality is merely personal and arbitrary.

The Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops has issued the following statement in light of the disturbing sexual abuse news about Jean Vanier.

It is with a heavy heart that the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) learned over the weekend of the shocking results of an independent inquiry, undertaken at the initiative of L'Arche International, to investigate allegations of abuse by its founder Jean Vanier.

St. Thomas Aquinas lived from 1255 to 1274. He was a Dominican friar, philosopher and Doctor of the Church. He's considered one of the giants of the Church and added greatly to the teaching doctrine and theology of the Church. As we approach Lent 2020, we thought it would be interesting to see how people in the Middle Ages celebrated this liturgical time of the Year.

Dr. Taylor Marshall a convert to Catholicism has done the research to find what believers were expected to do for Lenten penance.

A week ago I attended a Clergy Luncheon, in Mississauga, organized by Campaign Life Coalition. The guest speaker was Dr. Ann Gillies who has trained in psychology and theology. Her latest publication is a book titled, Closing the Floodgates: Setting the Record Straight About Gender and Sexuality. She was there to address Canada's current legislation known as, Bill S-202, An Act to amend the Criminal Code (conversion therapy).

Last Friday night at Msgr. Percy Johnson the Catholic Secondary School Parent Council together with the Toronto Catholic Parent Council and Faith in Our Child held a presentation on the topic of "Anxiety and Depression in Adolescents: Challenges and Pathways. Reflections of a Psychologist, Parent, Teacher and Priest."

There were four speakers followed by a panel discussion to address parent questions and comments. Dr. Sandra Sagrati was the keynote speaker.

Canada sadly doesn't have a government that leads effectively and has a plan for nationhood. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau just isn't interested in building the common good to construct a better country. Canadians should by now see the emptiness and divisiveness of political correctness and identity politics.

Yesterday, we posted the story of Sandra the orangutan that has been moved to Florida. The news is that this animal was granted by an Argentinian judge back in 2015 legal personhood. This is hard to believe by anyone with mere common sense. However, today's entry gets even worse.

Did you know that the orangutan that was granted "legal personhood" by a judge in Argentina back in 2015 has been moved to Florida? Think about that for a moment. The West which no longer recognizes a baby in the womb as a person, and yet a judge has already done that legally for an orangutan.

Parents looking for unbiased leadership on the issue of gender identity look no further than the diocese of Springfield, Illinois. Bishop Thomas Paprocki has released a Pastoral Guide on gender identity stating that adults and students enrolled in their schools will be identified by their biological sex. These days this is radical stuff. In short, the bishop is merely defending Church teaching: the human person is born male or female and with a soul.

In 1994, St. John Paul II wrote to celebrate the Year of the Family, a Letter to Families. In it he talks about many topics including, the family and the Church, family love, prayer, the marital covenant and the responsibility that Christian parents have to soundly educate their children. We post part of what he writes for Family Day 2020. Parents will find the entire Letter useful in carrying our their marriage vocation.

See, I have set before you today life and prosperity, death and adversity; I call heaven and earth to witness against you today that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curses. Choose life so that you and your descendants may live.

First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings should be made for everyone, for kings and all who are in high positions, so that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and dignity. This is right and is acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour, who desires everyone to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
