Orwell: Corrupt language, corrupts thought and action
In his essay, "Politics and the English Language" George Orwell makes the important point that if we use corrupt language then our morality and thinking inevitable becomes corrupt too. We use language to form our thoughts, defend freedom and uncover deception. The paper was published in 1946, but if we remove the references to World War II, we could read it as if it were released today.
Here are just some of the words and phrases that have corrupted and confused thought and action in our post-modern world:
1. The word “sex” to refer to the human biological reality of being born male and female has been hijacked by gender, gender identity and gender expression. The binary nature of human sexuality has been replaced with dozens of abstract genders and numerous sexual orientations.
