The Reproaches (Improperia in Latin) is an ancient hymn about the suffering of Christ on the cross. It is usually sung during the Veneration of the Cross at the Good Friday liturgical service. The sorrowful Christ says, "My people, my people what have I done to you?" The answer is for each of us to give.

Christ speaks directly to us and asks why we have turned against Him after all that he has done for our redemption and salvation. In most services today, the hymn is no longer sung. Is it because we don't want to be reminded that every time we sin we keep nailing the Lord to the cross? The hymn calls us to turn away from sin and live a virtuous life that God wants for everyone.

Latin

Popule meus, quid feci tibi?

Aut in quo contristavi te?

Responde mihi.

Today, Holy Thursday, the Church celebrates two great mysteries that are commemorated at Mass: the institution of the Holy Eucharist and the sacrament of Holy Orders, the priesthood. The priest is called to follow Christ's humble example of washing the feet of the other.

Christ says,"I, therefore, the master and teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash one anther's feet." As Christians, we are called to love and serve God and neighbour.

In recent years, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has greatly restricted the freedoms of the people of Hong Kong. Jimmy Lai's story is a very sad example. The man is in jail as a prisoner of conscience. Hong Kong was a British Colony that was handed back to China in 1997. The agreement between the two countries was to have "one country, two systems." This was supposed to protect the rights and libertines of the people of Hong Kong. However, the CCP has shown no intention of keeping their word.

March the 25th is nine before Christmas Day. Did you ever stop and think that without the Feast of the Annunciation, there would be no Christmas and no Easter. Had the Virgin Mary said, "No" to the Angel Gabriel, there would be no human redemption. Baby Jesus had to be born before he could accomplish his mission to restore humanity from the fall of original sin. The Virgin Mary and her husband St. Joseph both said, "Yes" to human and divine life. They said "Yes" to God's plan for humanity.

Lawyer John Carpay and president of the Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms (JCCF) has written an important and timely article titled, "The worst assault on free speech in modern Canadian history." The column responds to the proposed Justin Trudeau's Liberal government Bill C-63, the Online Arms Act. It's posted on the JCCF website.

Psalm 22: 1-31, "My God, I call by day but you do not answer." In a 2011 general audience talk Pope Benedict XVI said that this Psalm take us "to Golgotha, to the foot of the cross of Jesus, to relive his passion and to share the fruitful joy of the resurrection.

The Gospel story of Palm Sunday is Christ's "triumphal" entry into Jerusalem on a donkey. Christ doesn't come to Jerusalem riding in a Bentley or a Ferrari; no, He rode as a poor man on the back of a borrowed donkey. He was greeted with palm leaves and shouts from the crowd. No music to greet Him or awards for anything He had done.

No "Pomp and Circumstance" music for Christ like we hear at graduation ceremonies and the coronation of kings.

A great reflection on life, faith and family was given John Paul II as his last Lenten reflection. The 2005 pro-life message is even more relevant today as Canada is on the road to euthanizing with Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD) 10,000 people and aborting 100,000 unborn babies a year. All paid paid by the Canadian tax payer through Canada Health. A culture with legislation that promotes death can only lead to its own death. There is no future in abortion and euthanasia.

See, I have set before you today life and prosperity, death and adversity; I call heaven and earth to witness against you today that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curses. Choose life so that you and your descendants may live.

First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings should be made for everyone, for kings and all who are in high positions, so that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and dignity. This is right and is acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour, who desires everyone to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
