Woking Canadian history and getting it all wrong
In the rush to make Canada's history woke, we're getting it all wrong. A good example of this was the renaming of Ryerson University to Toronto Metropolitan University. The board of directors approved the change because the name Egerton Roberson was connected to Canada's residential schools. Ryerson was a central figure in developing the public school system, as well as the teachers' College in Canada.
The name change was one of the 22 recommendations made by the university's Standing Strong (Mash Koh Wee Kah Pooh Win) Task Force. The large statue of Ryerson that stood on the campus was vandalized and eventually toppled in 2020. This happened when the MSM news was filled with reports about unmarked grave sites on the grounds of former residential schools.
