St. Augustine: a confession for all

Today, the Catholic liturgy celebrates Saint Augustine. Named the Doctor of Grace because he's a major Church theologian. He converted from a life of sin and immorality. His mother prayed for years for it to happen. We post a short selection from St. Augustine's book The Confessions translated by Maria Boulding.

The short quote amounts to a good confession for every believer, every person of good will, as it talks about the importance of being cleansed from sin from the inside. It's also the mediation of the day in the Magnificat.

I shuddered with awe, yet all the while hope and joy surged up within me at your mercy, Father.

Where is the Mit Brennender Sorge for today?

On March 14, 1937, Pope Pius XI released the encyclical Mit Brennender Sorge, With Burning Anxiety, that criticized the German Nazi government for violating the Church's concordat (agreement). The document was essentially a strong condemnation of the government's adoption of a new racial policy. The encyclical was addressed to the German Reich, the venerable brethren and the archbishops of Germany.

Christian university students self-censor their identity: is this the real meaning of inclusion?

The Observatory on Intolerance and Discrimination Against Christians in Europe, OIDAC, an international NGO, has produced a disturbing documentary called "Self-Censored". While the documentary refers to Europe, the situation is similar in both North and South America. The main point that should concern every Christian is that students attending university now find it difficult to express their faith. They feel the social, "inclusion" pressure to self-censor who they are and believe.

It takes more than an Archbishop's dinner to form credible witnesses

The Archdiocese of Edmonton will be holding the Archbishop's Dinner on Oct. 4. There is nothing unusual about the event.

The message inviting the faithful is one of keeping the faith. "We live in an anxious world full of distractions. Every day, we encounter confusing messages about our faith and the fundamental truths of life. How do we silence the chaos and proclaim a message of joy?" All of that is true.

The martyrs of Canada: they are no longer politically correct

The former president of Radio Maria Canada, Luigi Pautasso, who brought the Catholic radio station to Canada also wrote a number of books. One is tilted, The Holy Martyrs of Canada. It's a text not widely known but very important because it’s about Canada's Catholic history. It’s about what our secular society and the woke society want us to forget. Today parishioners would rarely hear a homily or talk about the North American martyrs.

Has the Supreme Court of Canada become corrupt?

There is bad news for Canadians about the Supreme Court of Canada. It’s reported in the July Newsletter by Real Women of Canada and titled, "The Bust of the Chief Canada." An alternative title could be, the corruption of Canada's high court.

Cardus, a non-partisan think tank has released a very disturbing report about Medical Assistance in Dying in Canada (MAiD). It's titled, From Exceptional to Routine: The Rise of Euthanasia in Canada. The findings show that Canada's physician assisted-suicide and euthanasia program is now growing faster than anywhere else in the world.

Canada in just a few years has become a leader in death by legalized lethal injection.

Ontario's woke policies are destroying public education and much more

We post today a column by Igor Stravinsky from Woke Watch Canada. The author convincingly argues that the new Education Minister Todd Smith quickly left the job because the portfolio is in a complete mess. The assessment is right on. Public education in Ontario has been colonized by sex-indoctrination, critical race theory and political correctness. Premier Ford claims everywhere he goes to be "Building Ontario". However, his government's woke policies are doing the exact opposite.

Former school trustee Barry Neufeld is being persecuted for his views: all Canadians should be concerned

School Trustee Barry Neufeld has been under opposition and legal attack for over six years. His crime? He opposed the SOGI curriculum that was introduced in the public schools in British Columbia. SOGI stands for sexual orientation and gender identity. The radical curriculum pushes the woke idea that students can choose their sexuality and gender identity. They can also be freed from being trapped in the wrong bodies. Really.

The post-nation state Trudeau talked about: is it already here?

Remember when Justin Trudeau said that he admired China and that we live a post-nation state? Moreover, Canada has no core identity. He wasn’t kidding. Canada today is less of a nation and more a mere market economy. It’s about business and immigration, not culture.

The strength of the post-nation state comes from the DIE policy, diversity, inclusion and equity. The policy has no safe space for people of faith, especially Christians.
