Author Johannes Hartl gives an insightful one hour You Tube talk about the Bible. Here's what he writes about himself on his website:
My name is Johannes and as a speaker and author I deal with the topics of meaning, connectedness and faith. After studying philosophy and German language and literature, I earned a doctorate in Catholic theology and founded the House of Prayer in Augsburg together with my wife in 2005. The House of Prayer is an innovative place of Christian spirituality, where people have been praying 24/7 for more than 10 years. I reach hundreds of thousands of people seeking meaning on international stages, social media and with my lectures on YouTube. In doing so, I try to break the boundaries of the usual in a deep and humorous way - to bring rationality and spirituality together, to reconcile head and heart.
Canadian literary professor at the University of Toronto Northrop Frye wrote a scholarly book that supports much of what Hartl says regarding the Bible. Frye's text is titled, The Great Code: The Bible and Literature. Sadly today, few people know about and promote Fry's work. The publisher describes the seminal text this way:
World-renowned critic and scholar Northrop Frye examines the Bible as the single most important influence in the imaginative tradition of Western art and literature. Frye rejects both the dogmatic and literal interpretations while celebrating the uniqueness of the Bible as distinct from all other epics and sacred texts. His highly original analysis shows the Bible as redeeming history with a visionary poetic perspective that complements science in the understanding of man’s nature.
Here's Hartl's talk. It's a very spiritual rewarding way to spend an hour, especially a Sunday. Care to share your thoughts?
